Public worship update

In light of the Corona Virus (COVID-19) lockdown all public worship at St Michael’s has been suspended until further notice. Our church porch, however, will remain open for prayer.

Symptoms of the virus are a cough, a high temperature and shortness of breath. If you are concerned you may have contracted it, please phone NHS 111 or contact your doctor. Practical advice is to please cover your mouth if you cough or sneeze and dispose of your tissues, wear a mask, keep a physical distance from others, as well as thoroughly and regularly wash your hands with soap and water.

Here is a link to morning, evening and night prayer from the Church of England which you may like to use each day. https://www.churchofengland.org/prayer-and-worship/join-us-service-daily-prayer

If you need to be supported practically or pastorally or have any questions, please contact Fr. David  01273 478847 or Fr. Paul  07427 939140.

Fr. David Broad

God of goodness,
if we face trials or even suffering along our way,
you keep us in your love;
your Holy Spirit never leaves us.
And at every time of our life
we would like to sing
of your faithfulness.

 Fr. Alois of Taizé.

Welcome to the parish church of St Michael in Lewes which has been a place of worship and prayer for over 800 years. The Eucharist is at the centre of our life and our worship is in the Anglo-Catholic tradition. Other than in the current exceptional circumstances, our Sunday Eucharist takes place at 10.30am. The Eucharist is also celebrated on Wednesdays at 12.15pm. Forthcoming feasts and special services can be seen under Services

You are also welcome to join our friendly and inclusive congregation for Mass on Sundays and on some weekdays (for current times see Worship). Concerts and other events are held regularly (see Music and News).

St Michael’s is the only remaining church within the walls of the ancient county town of Lewes. It is of historic and architectural interest and has been decorated over the centuries to inspire and uplift all those who visit. It has spectacular views of the castle from the churchyard.

If you would like to make a donation it will help us to maintain this historic building for future generations.

To provide a little solace in these stressful times, we have added a recording of the organ recital by Nicholas Houghton on Sunday 1st March – one in our series of First Sunday Recitals, which will restart when current restrictions are lifted. There is also a recording of an earlier recital on the Music page. Many thanks to Terry Donoghue for the recordings.

St Michael’s Church follows the policies of the Chichester Diocese and safeguarding of the vulnerable is a sensitive and important issue. All adults who are involved with young people and with vulnerable adults undergo DBS checks and the proper process is followed. However, should you have any concerns please contact Belinda Kirby our appointed Safeguarding Officer or the Parish Priest whose contact details can be found on the Contacts page.
